Exactly one year ago, on the 1st Monday of March, Michael Petkau and I started to record a record. That record is now recorded and mixed. I am so stoked that I can't get myself to go to bed...

My album is 99% complete but alas, it will be a few more weeks before Mike and I finesse the extra 1% then ship the album for mastering. Since you have all waited so patiently for so long, I have posted the current mix for Track 03 in the music section of this site. So download, share, and enjoy :)

I started making my first solo record, and now I have one day left to complete it. It has been a unique and rewarding experience, but I guess all journeys must come to an end.

which hit -50 C yesterday (so I went for a refreshing jog), the end of the cold snap is coming - and so is the end of making my solo album. Mike is mixing a song as I type this :)

But my solo album is smoking ... and finally at the mixing stage!

-30 Celsius this morning, but that's okay because I'm nearing the end of my new album production this week.

My 3 year-old daughter just fell asleep after an eventful trick-or-treat experience. If any of you had half the fun she had, I'm sure you've really enjoyed this Friday night. Now comes the best part: I get to rummage through the haul to steal my favourite chocolates! (I'll only take a couple...honest) Have a great Halloween - Mike Petkau and I resume my album project next week!

As my busiest summer in recent memory comes to a close, it has occurred to me that I have not posted any new music for a long time. The recording stage for my solo album has gone into overtime, but "Love Me Still" is one song that is close to completion. Enjoy :)

You gotta love Toronto - last Thursday night I found myself enjoying the Just For Laughs Festival next to Dave Bidini! A nice guy, of course...

I just completed a productive and inspired week of recording with Mike Petkau. I am now only a few trumpet, pedal steel and guitar solo tracks away from finishing my solo album. Yay me!

Okay, here's the bad news: I likely won't be able to keep up the song-a-week pace for awhile because of the good news: I have started recording my own solo record with the lovely and talented Mike Petkau as producer/engineer. Of course, this is in addition to the new THB record. I guess we'll see which one gets finished first!

"Star" is a song we're anxious to include on our next record. Here is a loosely-jammed version ripe with errors that we did in rehearsal a few weeks back.

I'm a day late and the vocal suffered due to my nasty headcold but here it is: "The Idol" is my ode to the dream of pop stardom. You can even download this one!

I'm feeling all fuzzy and warm in this unusually balmy Winnipeg weather (about -44 Celsius...twice as cold as an industrial food freezer) because it's Valentine's day! And for this week's new song offering I have written a song called "Valentine" about love at the end of the world. It is hands-down the most bizarre song I've written to date (I actually included "harbingers" and "HowToSurvive2012.com" in the lyrics) but I hope you still enjoy it.

In other news, it looks like our song "Life Is Good" will close out one of the next two episodes of the TV show Heartland (CBC)!

The last time I watched the Grammy awards was about 20 years ago when Tina Turner performed "What's Love Got To Do With It?". As fate has it, I tuned into last night's Grammy Awards to see, once again, Tina Turner performing the same song. Needless to say, I changed the channel. Perhaps I'll tune into the Awards in another 20 years. By then I'll WANT to see if Tina Turner can still sing that song...

"Sometimes" is the result of my first foray into Logic Studio - it's a cool program that lets me create drum, bass & keyboard parts along with pro multitrack recording & mixing...

I recorded this week's entry very quickly, (one take of guitar & vocal into ProTools then an overall limiter & stereo delay - DONE) but the song comes across anyway. You can let me know if you like it by commenting at the Guestbook!

"Lost" is one of a series of songs I'm writing which delve into the thoughts and feelings I experienced during or after the better part of a year I spent seriously ill. Not surprisingly, you can expect these songs to be a bit sombre...

Forgiving the jibberish lyrics and highly noticeable drumming screwups, I had oodles of fun recording "Tried".

I had quite a bit of fun making this demo. I played around with my gear, made some new discoveries, and finished demoing this brand new song in the process. Enjoy :)
